Gratitude 1June2017 Inner City Blues

The announcement of the United States withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement took my breath away. Literally, it was hard to breath. Another layer of protection for our earth, our children’s future, is being eradicated. Adding it to the list of regulations that are no longer, now allow pollution to go into our waterways and air.

In Portland, Oregon, two men lost their lives and one was badly injured protecting two women who were being harrassed. A man was yelling racial slurs at the women when the men interceded on their behalf. At the suspects arraignment for the crimes, he yelled, “You call it terrorism, I call it patroitism.”

For a second time in a week, another noose was found at the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. The noose, historically a symbolic of the horrific lynchings and black struggle, was left last week hanging from a tree outside and then yesterday, in an exhibit.

Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James home was spray painted with racist graffiti. His wife and children were not home at the time. James responded, “Hate in America, especially for African-Americans, is living every day.”

Kathy Griffin, a comedian known for her provacative brand of humor, did a photo shoot with a replica of a severed-head that resembled Donald Trump. The pictures were quickly condemned on the internet and Griffin was under fire. Griffin issued an apology stating “I went way too far.”

And then I closed the news app.

Please, be kind. To your neighbor, to the earth, and to yourself.

affectionately yours, Laura
