Gratitude 27April16 Strong and Tired

I am a strong woman. Truly I am. I have faced adversaries and challenges that would bring most to their knees. I have lived the motto “When the going gets tough; the tough get going.” I am now facing a hard realization.

images (4)I am tired. I no longer have the energy needed to get going. It is showing in all aspects of my life. It is draining me to the point where I don’t have the energy to do what is pleasurable. I am weary of doing what I perceive as the right thing, being the bigger person, and leaving myself vulnerable because of it.

It is as old as the rising of the sun and the setting of the moon; you can’t take care of others unless you take care of yourself. Logically I know this. Emotionally I have not heeded the warnings that have been flashing in my life like emergency lights on a car dashboard.

I think it is a woman’s nature to care for others and put others before themselves. Being a caretaker is hard work. In my care for another, I have lost my way. It is time to refocus on myself.

Today I am thankful

Gratitude 18April16 Color Me Calm

ColoringWhen I began noticing adult coloring books appearing at the bookstore I frequent, I laughed. “What will they think of next?” I thought, first. Then, pleasant memories of coloring as a child followed. I found myself in line, coloring book and pencils in hand at the checkout line.

This weekend, feeling stressed, I got out my coloring book and pencils. I sat and let the worries slip away as I became mindful and focused on filling in swirling patterns and lines of colors. I do not know what the psychology is of what makes it so calming, but, it works. For that time, my mind is free from all the worries and is free just to be calm.

Today I am thankful

  • For the little things
  • I do believe spring may really be here
  • Paperwork is done — relief!

Here is a really interesting website I found on adults who color. You might want to head out and get yourself a coloring book to go with that bottle of wine.

Gratitude 14April16 Random Thoughts

Justs a few random thoughts,

I have my bi-annual dental cleaning this afternoon. Is it just me, or does everyone dread going to the dentist? The whole having your mouth poked and prodded with tools and mirror. Then the anticipation of the possibility for the need of drills or worse, further treatments. I am always so relieved to get my little bag with my new toothbrush and hear “See you in six months.”

12501790_1591715147818242_490263148_nI am maxed out on politics and can not imagine having to endure more of this till November. I understand what is at stake for our country and how important it is. Which makes it all the disheartening that we are dealing with the candidates was have to elect. Someone on CNN said it best, “It is about picking which poison you want to drink.”

I am not a Kardashian fan by any means, but if there was one I have liked over the years, it was Rob. At least I never got the sense that he would sell his soul for fame. And now he either is or is being manipulated to do so (which I tend to believe). I feel like I am watching a head-on car crash with his relationship with Blac Chyna being splashed all over the news these last several weeks. Talk about the black widow spider that kills her prey after she mates; we are watching it in action folks.

Today I am thankful

  • I got my steps in for the day
  • Disneys new movie Jungle Book is out today
  • Pasta for dinner

It is a beautiful 70-degree spring day in Minneapolis. I am off to enjoy it.

Gratitiude 12April16 Giving Thanks

This week I saw the quote “If you only pray when you are in trouble; you are in trouble” I used to think that prayer was involved in something of a formal process. I don’t anymore. Prayer for me is an ongoing conversation with my God. It is what I do on a daily basis when I give gratitude and thanks for the simplest of the most intricate things in my life.

images (1)“Thank you, God, for waking me to blue skies and sunshine.” “Thank you, God, for getting me through this day.” “Thank you, God, for my feet not looking like rising bread dough after Chinese food last night.” “To You, God, I give thanks and praise.”

Today I am thankful

  • Peace of mind that can be elusive
  • The Voice is on tonight
  • Paperwork is on its way to being done

Prayer can be whatever you want it to be. Prayer is a fluent and flowing meditation. Prayer is where and whenever you want to be. Like anything in life, prayer becomes a habit.
