Gratitude 10September15 It’s Just Stuff

This summer my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer and placed in a hospice program. As a result, I was tasked with clearing out his apartment and distributing his things. Not a pleasant task, yet, a necessary one.

The thing that struck me over and over as I went through his things was, how one persons treasures are another individuals junk. Things he had saved over the years, I looked at and wondered “What the hell?” As I swiftly went through his items, I couldn’t help but think, one day someone will be going through my “treasures” and wondering the same.

As I begin my fall cleaning and changing out my seasonal clothes — I am looking at my things with a new outlook. What material things do I value the most? What is just excess? What can I send out into the universe for someone else to enjoy? Time to purge.

Today I am thankful

As my Dad ends his life journey, one thing is clear — you can’t take it with you. In the end, it’s just stuff.

Gratitude 08September15 Well, That Sucks

I am feeling extremely frustrated at this moment. Someone is sending me pornographic text messages.

It started about a week ago. It started with suggestive language and increased in details and requests. Last night, they began to include pictures.

As each has arrived, I have blocked the individual sender. Whoever is doing this — obviously does not have a life — each is arriving with a unique number or email address.

After spending a significant amount of time online with my cellular company, my options are minimal. I can change my cellular number, or keep blocking each message. I was advised to contact the police. Which I have discovered is not high on their priority list of crimes.

As someone who is cognitively savvy not to give out personal information on the internet, and who does not freely give my number out to many. Well, this sucks doesn’t it? That I would have to waste time on this bullshit. The saddest thing is, police say that majority of the time it is someone you know. Isn’t that special?

Today I am thankful ..

~ Yoga and breathing exercises
~ A beautiful fall day

Not one to be daunted by a challenge, I have been referred to a “special” police division that handles these complaints. I will be providing them with all information. Wish me luck.

Gratitude 04September15 I Fell in Love with a Dog

I have always wondered at the connection between people and their pets. Other than a bunny that I had a great fondness for; I could not relate to the parent-child mentality of a pet owner.

Lola 1I now understand. Four weeks ago today I acquired a dog named Lola. She is small in stature, brown with a few white markings, and she is a feisty little thing. Today as she lay napping with me, I looked at her and thought “I have fallen.” Yes, it has happened to me. I fell in love with a dog.

Today I am thankful ..
~ My puppy Lola
~ My new family is in town, and I love all of them
~ God has blessed me beyond my wildest imagination

I wish you all a delightful and safe Labor Day weekend.

Gratitude 03September15 Laughter is the Best Medicine

The most potent medication I am prescribed is not in my medication bin or cabinet. It is within me and the people who surround me. It is the sound of laughter.

They say laughter is the best medicine, and that is true for me. A good belly laugh can lift me up spiritually, and make light of any situation. It is healing. Laughter is not just fun; laughter is soothing.

In an article, The Stress Management and Health Benefits of Laughter posted on abouthealth.com, it states “Research has shown that the health benefits of laughter are far-ranging.” And that is fact.

Today I am thankful
~ It is a calm day with a short to-do list
~ My paperwork is manageable
~ I am looking forward to an enjoyable weekend

I wish you a good belly laugh and happy times.

Gratitude 02September15 The Letter “I”

Today’s blog is brought to you by the letter “I” — for ibuprofen. As in I started back to Yoga today and am badly in need of said drug.

This summer has been a whirlwind of activity, emotions, and the last thing I should have done was “take the summer off” from my exercise regiment. Lessons that I learn the hard way.

Today I am thankful ..
~ Despite the aches and pains I am back on the road to fitness
~ A Santi day is always a good day
~ I am content

WishesWishing you a wonderful evening!

Gratitude 01September15 Welcome September!

I like the line in the movie You’ve Got Mail when Tom Hank’s character Joe Fox writes Meg Ryan’s Kathleen Kelly character “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies.”

That is how I feel as I anticipate the crispness in the air and the changing of the leaves. I was in the swing as I went school shopping with my grandson last week. And it makes me want to someday experience New York in the fall.

Now, however, we have a hot, humid Minnesota day to contend with until the fall air moves in for some relief.

Of all the seasons of the year — Fall is my favorite.

Today I am thankful

~ I made it to the gym
