Gratitude 24June14 Beauty Within

“As long as we don’t push on the walls of our surroundings, we may never know how strong we really are.” Paige Bradley

I have a picture of a bronze sculpture entitled Expansion by Paige Bradley above my bed. It is of a woman meditating in the locus position. Since finding it on the internet I have been entranced with the sculpture. What is striking to me is the quiet power of the woman. Although fractured, she glows from within. There is a distinction of peace in her face and confidence in her stance. Every day I look at it when I wake up and think of the message I see in it — broken can still glow and exude strength.

On her website, PaigeBradley.com, Bradley shares her motivation for the piece. It was her inspiration to break outside of the “box” that the world tends to place us in that ignited the idea for the piece. Bradley bravely took a statue she had been working on for several months and dropped it on the floor, shattering it. She then cast the pieces in bronze and put them back together so they appeared to “float” together. With the help of a lighting specialist she created the glow from within. Thus, creating what has become Bradley’s signature piece, Expansion.

Today I am thankful for ..

  • The simple things in my life that keep me encouraged and brave
  • Philosophy Margarita body wash
  • Wii Fit age of 32

Today I am listening to “Summer Breeze” by Al Jarreau and George Benson

What would appear to be broken is really an opportunity to put it back together into something better. Heading out into this beautiful summer day. Wishing you “happy” all day.

affectionately yours, Laura

I started a craft project that has been on my Bucket List for a few years. It’s a handmade Christmas stocking. I am liking this Beach Santa a lot already! A few sequins sewn with a gazillion to go. Happily, I have until December to complete it.

Today I am thankful for ..

  • Time with my cousin, Kathy
  • Sinus medication for this monster headache

Have a spectacular day.

Cheers! It is a day of celebration for me. Today is the 500th blog I have written. I am sitting here with a big smile and feeling of great accomplishment.

When I began writing this in September 2012, it was with the intention of simply stating what I was thankful for in my life. It was my every day reality check. It started as a daily email with 6 women friends and grew to what it is today — a published blog online read by many.

During this wonderful journey I have written about my life happenings, my favorite things, being a warrior in the struggle of depression, that I am fascinated with words and foreign languages. At times, I allowed my imagination to take us to far away places and the “what if’s and wishes” of my life. You discovered I have “interesting” to say the least music taste and the majority of pictures shared are of my love for the water. Must be the Pisces in me, ya think?

Much of what I share begins with my daily writing in my journal. It is often my diving board into the pool of my thoughts printed here. Despite the eclectic nature of what is delivered from my heart to yours.  I have tried my best to keep them focused on being grateful and paying it forward.  Most importantly, my words reflect the simplicity of what my life has come done to. When I prioritize what is important to me, my peace of mind and what my content spirit feeds on; it always comes back to what I am grateful and thankful for.

Today I am thankful for ..

  • The sun is shining!
  • The smell of freshly cut grass out my window
  • A wonderful and busy weekend ahead

Without too much thought, name three things you are grateful for. Look around, it really is a wonderful world.

affectionately yours, Laura
